Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible and accountable for providing technical engineering support and expertise for new product/process introduction programmes and implementing strategies for improving manufacturing process capability on current production operations.
This role will also be accountable for ensuring technical support in estimating and launching new programs (NPI) and measuring and improving existing programs within the business continuous improvement program.

Key Responsibilities

• To improve manufacturing performance with regard to process capability, output, productivity and cost.
• To provide expert knowledge of manufacturing processes including close tolerance machining, automation and test systems.
• To deliver robust manufacturing solutions for new product/components in line with the MB Aerospace NPI process to meet the required HS&E aspects, first time quality, installed capacity and cost.
• To provide expertise in supporting the business with regard to the MB Aerospace Manufacturing Systems, policies and procedures. To includes all technical planning documentation.
• To support the business by providing expertise and driving quality systems including the management of statistical methods, problem solving techniques and continuous improvement.
• To deliver manufacturing process documentation and training in line with business training standards.
• Cost estimating on new opportunities.
• Develop capable processes and standard work within manufacturing engineering and manufacturing operations and ensure compliance.
• To maintain a clean and tidy operating environment at all times through an active and practical approach to all 6S and HSE issues.

Job Requirements

• Qualified to degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline with an interest in manufacturing
• Experience or interest required high volume, high precision manufacturing
• Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent ability to analyse and interpret large data sets and generate conclusions leading to robust technical solutions.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, prioritise under pressure and be self-motivating.
• Ability to use technology effectively and efficiently to manage workload.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and ability to create documents, reports and briefing materials in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Job Description

Maintenance Re-build & Service Fitter role is to provide mechanical fitting support for the maintenance and commissioning of existing, new, and modified machine tools, maintenance department and production. Including servicing on all types of machines.

• Strip, steam clean and rebuild machine tools. Assess condition of tools and recommend corrective action. Manufacture modifications and provide sketches for Drawing Office records.
• Carry out bench fitting of components for machining assemblies.
• Fabricate parts, machine guards, etc. using a variety of machine tools – mills, lathes, grinders drills etc as well as hand tools.
• Train and develop apprentices and other trainees in mechanical fitting and fabricating operations when required.
• Support Maintenance Department as required.
• Regular servicing of all types of machine tools.

• Fault identification, method of repair and replacement of parts from stock.
• Priority of jobs at start of and during shift is set by supervision.

Job Description

To operate and inspect work from any of 3 or more machines (including at least one CNC operation) for the manufacture of turbine components.

This position is based at our Newton Abbot, UK facility and will report to the Cell Shift Leader.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and load components in fixture using correct datum faces
• When operating machines carry out work in line with appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and company procedures
• When the machining cycle is complete, remove, clean, and inspect the part
• Maintain correct working order of the machine, by making appropriate adjustments to tooling and coolant flow as and when required
• Liaise with Inspection to check first off before starting full batch run
• Use appropriate hand tools to deburr work
• Visually Inspect and measure components to ensure compliance with specification
• Use optical, manual, electronic, digital gauges and tooling as supplied
• Calibrate and operate micro-PCRs (programmed measurement instruments) – in accordance with planning requirements
• Carry out inspections on other operators’ work – especially those not qualified to inspect their own work e.g., operators undergoing training
• Complete manual and PC based production records, recording components completed and identifying those not conforming to specification on “non-conformance notes”. Stamp “OK” or enter into the paperless manufacturing center (PLMC) Segregate non-conforming parts. Take completed batch to next operation
• Assist with training and mentoring of new team members, in line with individual competence
• Maintain work area in a clean and safe condition, report any problems to cell supervision, cell manufacturing support operative (MSO) and/or Maintenance
• Maintain machines in a running condition by changing consumables as required. e.g., cutters, grinding wheels and electrodes
• Hand polish components to planning requirements

This position will report to the Shift Manager and will sit in the Newton Abbot site.

Job Description

The Cell Shift Leaders role is to lead all cell and shift activities within the value streams to ensure that production, sales, customer, and quality targets are all met to deliver customer demands and MBANA budgets. Lead and promote all continuous improvement activities & lean activities to ensure productivity targets and improvements are met.

The Cell Shift Leader will supervise and motivate cell team members, through effective communication & recognition referring to performance measures, such as ‘day by hour’ metrics. As well as identifying training needs for cell members through the Personal Development Plan (PDP) process. In the addition, the Cell Shift Leader will also ensure new starters are effectively inducted to the cell and will provide appropriate training support for all cell members in accordance with job requirements and PDP actions.

The Cell Shift Leader will also ensure 6s, Health Safety Environment (HSE) and fire regulations are maintained within the cell. This will involve carrying out inspections and taking corrective action as appropriate. As well as maintaining Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), updating time management records, conducting appraisals, and managing performance and disciplinary issues.

- Perpetual inventory count
- Booking transactions
- Collate and communicate shift data & shift performance, (safety, quality, cost & delivery).
- Shift hand-over
- 6S, machine check lists, planned maintenance and audits.
• Deal with team issues as they arise and advise on Company procedures and policies.
• Allocate & record cell holidays and manage holiday allocation in line with the capacity plan.
• Report machine breakdowns and work with the maintenance department to prioritise and resolve.
• Adjust authorised machine parameters to produce components of the correct size e.g., machine tool offsets/datum settings/change worn press die/minor programme alterations as authorised.
• Assess non-conformance parts Scrap / RDM / Salvage. Complete appropriate records and produce required documentation. Maintain daily output records.
• Monitor equipment daily and ensure records are up to date.
• LEAN champion for designated cell. Promote and coach team members in LEAN activities. Lead and guide team members on Continuous Improvement (CI) and problem-solving activities, identification and investigation of faults and non-conformance. Develop solutions using approved problem solving and CI processes and procedures.
• Support the flow of transactions in MAPICS or other systems and rectify booking errors.
• Ensure that the cell has all the correct tools, fixtures, consumables & equipment to enable production and that at the end of the shift all are stored in the correct locations.
• Responsible for all HSE issues within team and work area, regularly carry out inspections and waste walks.
• Complete OEE, and update personnel time management records.

MB Aerospace Newton Abbot manufactures specialist precision components predominantly for the aerospace industry.

The role will initially provide NDT Level 3 support to ensure all regulatory and customer requirements are met for Non-Destructive Testing processes in Penetrant and Magnetic Particle methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Training and examination of NDT personnel, ensuring their continued competence to conduct required NDT activities.
• Control and approval of NDT processes to ensure the production of compliant products.
• To ensure the appropriate NDT method is carried out and correctly sequenced within the manufacturing operation.
• Lead the business in preparation for NADCAP and customer audits across the NDT function.
• Act as Nadcap Special Process owner for NDT, Chemical Processing (CP) including pre-FPI Clean & Etch, and Anti-fret paint application. Ensure that all special processes and procedures are robust, fit for purpose and all equipment and tools in use are well maintained and correctly calibrated. Regularly assess Special Process functions for technical adequacy and implement improvements through inspections and structured audits.
• Participate in and oversee the completion of corrective action management processes in relation to NDT, CP and associated processes.

• Maintain Level 2 certification for product acceptance as part of Level 3 duties.

• Undertake preparation, testing, and examination of metallurgical specimens. Analyse results, produce reports, and make appropriate recommendations in order to ensure metals and associated processes are fit for purpose. Key Responsibilities

• Place goods and materials into storage as per customer and health and safety requirements, using the customer specifications and planning, checking that all relevant paper work is correctly completed and signed.
• Control of the movement of components / Work-In-Progress around the shop floor as per the issued routings.
• Preparation of packaging and components prior to dispatch using planning datasheets and customer specs.
• Maintenance of records using Mapics, spread sheets and data bases. Keeping management systems up to date.
• Stock control and the ordering of stock. Perpetual inventory checks and annual stock checks. Dispatch holds a large qty of finished components as well as components ready for sub con.
• Dispatching components to the customer and sub-contractors using the customer specs and planning.
• Dispatching all components produced by MB Aerospace to the relevant customer as per their individual specs using Pick Pack Ship / Kitting, to put the parts into sales also creating customer address labels and individual box labels. Checking that the Cof C’s are correct and contain the relevant information and signatures.
• Dispatch/receipt of goods returning from sub-contractors using the planning and customer specs.
• Goods in duties to include the creation of blade lists and production of batch cards, travellers and backing sheets. This requires the inspection of components using measuring tools and the inspection of the paperwork.

Job Requirements

• NVQ Level 1 Engineering and NVQ 2 level 2 in Distribution and Warehouse.
• Trained / Qualified in the operation of overhead gantry cranes and forklift trucks for loading and unloading of components.

The duties of the post may change from time to time without altering their general character or the level of responsibility entailed. The job holder must:
