The Role

As an Apprentice Engineer you will be developing a varied skill set focused around the 3 main apprenticeship pathways:

• Technical Craft Skills
• Maintenance Engineering
• Mechanical & Design Engineering

The engineering apprenticeship includes inhouse training and is in partnership with Exeter College, who deliver the accredited training element of your qualification. You will be working towards a Level 2 Engineering Operative apprenticeship standard. During the first 15 months of your engineering operative apprenticeship, you will spend 2 days a week at Exeter College in term time and 3 days per week in the workplace. You will have the opportunity to develop both your practical ‘hands on’ skills and theory-based knowledge of mechanical engineering.
For those who have shown commitment and achievement in both their practical and academic work there could be an opportunity to progress onto a level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship.

This position sits in our Newton Abbot, UK facility and will report to a Senior Manager within our Operations or Engineering department.

Job Description

To maintain the serviceability and accuracy of all the factory plant, machine tools and equipment, in a Multi-Skilled capacity.

This position is based at our Newton Abbot, UK facility and will report to the Maintenance Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to machine breakdowns
• Investigate faults and action repair work, with the aid of maintenance computer data systems where appropriate
• Strip, overhaul and repair all types of machine tools, plant and equipment
• Record all breakdowns with faults, parts used, actions and times
• Check and test M/C’s on completion of repair work or PM’s
• Effective liaison with production and hand over of work
• Install and commission machinery
• Manufacture parts in support of the maintenance and guarding of machinery
• Carry out various electrical fault finding, repair and installation tasks within personal capability:
o Connect and disconnect supplies for equipment and M/C moves, test circuits and components, e.g. solenoids, motors etc.
o Interpret wiring diagrams etc. plus carry out electrical preventative maintenance work, and be able to use various testing instruments
• Test and ensure all safety systems are working correctly
• Comply with maintenance PM system and to advise on changes to programme, frequency, scope of work etc.
• Overhaul equipment for spares
• Write basic programmes to test CNC m/c systems
• Assist with training of others assigned to the department
• Carry out other duties compatible with this job and employee’s individual skill as required by management


Job Requirements

Job Purpose

To be successful you’ll be a high calibre, forward thinking and commercially focused HR professional.

Key Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

Performs set-up and operates computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centres to manufacture metallic and/or non-metallic parts to very close tolerances under minimal supervision with keen attention to detail.

· Read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Aerospace approved welder having completed an NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification.
• The ability to manually TIG weld various types of metallic components including aluminium alloys, in accordance with aerospace standards.

The Role
MB Aerospace Newton Abbot manufactures specialist precision components predominantly for the aerospace industry. The role will initially provide NDT Level 3 support to ensure all regulatory and customer requirements are met for Non-Destructive Testing processes in Penetrant and Magnetic Particle methods. Progression to Company Responsible Level 3 is expected after successfully completing an extended period of experience, training and development.

Key Responsibilities
• Training and examination of NDT personnel, ensuring their continued competence to conduct required NDT activities.
• Control and approval of NDT processes to ensure the production of compliant products.
• To ensure the appropriate NDT method is carried out and correctly sequenced within the manufacturing operation.
• Lead the business in preparation for NADCAP and customer audits across the NDT function.
• Act as Nadcap Special Process owner for NDT, Chemical Processing (CP) including pre-FPI Clean & Etch, and Anti-fret paint application. Ensure that all special processes and procedures are robust, fit for purpose and all equipment and tools in use are well maintained and correctly calibrated. Regularly assess Special Process functions for technical adequacy and implement improvements through inspections and structured audits.
• Participate in and oversee the completion of corrective action management processes in relation to NDT, CP and associated processes.
• Responsible for the ongoing review of NDT and CP specifications, standards, and internal documentation to ensure processes meet customer and regulatory requirements
• Maintain Level 2 certification for product acceptance as part of Level 3 duties.
• Conduct regular review of rejected parts against customer specifications and maintain/monitor inspector finding rates.
• Conduct NDT production inspections as required.

Job Requirements
• Certified NDT level 3
• At least 4 years proven experience at Level 2 in fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection techniques and certified to accept products as part of Level 3 duties in the aerospace sector.
• Minimum HNC Level or equivalent in a relevant Engineering / Technical discipline.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral), including report writing.
• Demonstrable proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite of products.
• Ability to prioritise and manage conflicting demands whilst meeting operational deadline requirements.
• Experience in engaging with multiple stakeholders.

Desirable:
• Experience of FMEA, PPAP and AS13000 suite of aerospace standards desirable

The Role

To ensure shipment of the correct products are delivered in line with customer requirement.
