As an Apprentice Engineer you will be developing a varied skill set focused around Manufacturing, specifically leading to a focus on maintenance.

The engineering apprenticeship includes inhouse training and is in partnership with Exeter College, who deliver the accredited training element of your qualification. You will be working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician apprenticeship standard. During the first 15 months of your engineering operative apprenticeship, you will spend 2 days a week at Exeter College in term time and 3 days per week in the workplace. You will have the opportunity to develop both your practical ‘hands on’ skills and theory-based knowledge of mechanical engineering.

For those who have shown commitment and achievement in both their practical and academic work there could be an opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician

This position sits in our Newton Abbot, UK facility and will report to a Senior Manager within our Operations or Engineering department.

The Role

To maintain and service plant, machinery and production equipment.
Duties to include; Preventive maintenance on machines and equipment, as well as responding to emergency machine break downs throughout the plant; Involvement with installation and movements of existing machines; Overhaul and repair of machines and equipment. Ensuring machines and equipment are safe, working efficiently and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical support to the whole maintenance team.
• Administration and maintenance of EAM activities (PM’s, breakdowns, corrective and calibrations).
• Generate PM schedules and SOP’s and implement.
• Analysis of breakdowns to establish root cause and CI activities.
• Liaison and support with suppliers and contractors for procurement of spares and repairs of machines and equipment.
• Breakdown support and Liaison with production cells to establish true fault condition and help expedite a successful repair or remedial action.
• Project manage Installation of new equipment.

Job Requirements

• Relevant BTEC/BEng in electrical, electronics, manufacturing, mechanical or production engineering.
• Apprenticeship served and proven track record in a maintenance environment working on a wide range of CNC machine tools, working knowledge of PLC and CNC controls essential.
• Experience of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical installations desirable.

The Role

To be trained to operate and inspect work from 3 or more machines for the manufacture of aero engine components.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and load components in fixture using correct datum faces
• When operating machines carry out work in line with appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and company procedures
• When the machining cycle is complete, remove, clean, and inspect the part
• Maintain correct working order of the machine, by making appropriate adjustments to tooling and coolant flow as and when required
• Liaise with Inspection to check first off before starting full batch run
• Use appropriate hand tools to deburr work
• Visually Inspect and measure components to ensure compliance with specification
• Use optical, manual, electronic, digital gauges and tooling as supplied
• Calibrate and operate micro-PCRs (programmed measurement instruments) – in accordance with planning requirements
• Carry out inspections on other operators’ work – especially those not qualified to inspect their own work e.g., operators undergoing training
• Complete manual and PC based production records, recording components completed and identifying those not conforming to specification on “non-conformance notes”. Stamp “OK” or enter into the paperless manufacturing center (PLMC) Segregate non-conforming parts. Take completed batch to next operation
• Assist with training and mentoring of new team members, in line with individual competence
• Maintain work area in a clean and safe condition, report any problems to cell supervision, cell manufacturing support operative (MSO) and/or Maintenance
• Maintain machines in a running condition by changing consumables as required. e.g., cutters, grinding wheels and electrodes
• Hand finish components to planning requirements
• Demonstrate and promote in-cell standardisation by maintaining: health & safety, 6S, SOPs, daily check sheets, front line asset care, machine first off procedures and date calibration checks
• Book off work in accordance with all production and quality requirements.

Job Requirements

Job Purpose:

As a Quality Inspector you will provide quality control support to the operations & engineering teams ensuring flawless product inspections throughout the manufacturing cycle. Ensuring product integrity and company processes are followed in accordance with the Company’s Quality Manual. We operate a high mix/high complexity/low volume environment, so you are required to be comfortable working with a broad spectrum of parts/materials. This role is essential in safeguarding MB Aerospace’s reputation for quality is maintained.

In addition to manual inspection work, you will be responsible for the operation of multiple CMM (Co-ordinate Measuring Machines) using PCDMIS & Mitytoyo software. You will also complete non-conformance reporting (NCR's) and support RCCA activity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct precise product inspections, ensuring compliance with drawings and documentation for FAIRs, meeting AS9100 and customer specifications.
• Maintain and update documentation pertinent to FAIRs and process quality, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
• Manage non-conforming material via the Non-Conformance Reporting system (NCR).
• Actively contribute to problem-solving initiatives, participating in root cause analyses and applying corrective and preventive actions.
• Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams to elevate quality, address customer returns and facilitate 8D problem-solving.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to discuss inspection results, resolve issues, and ensure that projects stay on track.
• Keep measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions, calling for repairs.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
• To work closely with production personnel carrying out first off, final and random inspections using CMM and Mechanical inspection equipment.
• Apply principles of Lean Manufacturing to reduce setup times and improve productivity.


Experience and Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a quality inspector within the precision engineering industry - Aerospace preferred.
• A good working knowledge of CMMs, handheld metrology instruments and first off inspections.
• The ability to program on CMM machinery (Preferred).
• The ability to read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
• Interpret work instructions.
• Visually inspects final components.
• Use precision measuring instruments & gauging devices and perform various quality inspection type procedures to include dimensional verification· Adhere to all policies and procedures.

Barnes Aerospace– SCM Headquarters has an exciting opportunity for an SCF summer Intern (three months) to play an integral role in our supply chain transformation. The right candidate should be a self-driven and enthusiastic university student in their 2nd or 3rd year. The Barnes Aerospace group provides advanced technological solutions to the Aerospace and Defence industry, leveraging an in-depth knowledge of fabrications, machining and the global supply chain to support complex aero-engine component manufacture and repair.

Core Responsibilities:
• Work directly with Global Supply Chain, IT, Legal & HR organizations on various assignments
• Support the global, regional and site integration of supply chain standard work, training and skills matrix
• Support global Approved Supplier List (ASL)
• Maintain supply chain data and ensure data integrity
• Support the data collection, and creation of supplier/customer scorecards for the Paris airshow
• Develop a standard delivery assurance process, including forward looking Line of Balance (LOB);
• Reverse auction and sell excess and obsolete inventory
• Root cause and mistake proof to level 1 prevention of supplier delinquency
• Complete internship projects and present findings to leadership
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a business environment
• Ability to schedule and organize time and tasks effectively
• Ability to work in a challenging and schedule driven environment
• Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices and recommend proper automation opportunities
• Familiarity with Excel (V-lookup/Pivot tables) and ability to learn Camtasia & Articulate software, Power BI a plus
• Must be an innovator and embrace lean enterprise, principles and practices

Education Requirements:
• Currently enrolled in an accredited university as a 2nd or 3rd year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree preferred in Integrated Supply Chain Management, IT, Engineering, Business or Materials Management
